With Stefon Diggs signing a five-year extension on Monday, many Vikings fans are asking what’s next? The realistic answer is that we will probably just have to wait and see, but there are a few obvious options. The main one being signing linebacker Anthony Barr to an extension. Barr is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of this season and the Vikings hope to keep him but the fear is he might price himself out of Minnesota. There are other options too, like trying to extend newcomer Sheldon Richardson who many are saying looks phenomenal so far in training camp. Richardson would likely come at a much cheaper price than Barr. But say they both play well this year and command more money elsewhere, they could decide to punt and build through the draft again. They also have the option of giving contracts to much less notable players such as offensive lineman Nick Easton.
It’s going to be an interesting year for the Vikings, and an even more interesting offseason to follow.
