Tuesdays Take With Jay

In honor of NFL training camps starting this week, I will be giving an early preview of what to watch for during the Vikings 2018 training camp at the new facility in Eagan. After 52 years of training camp in Mankato, the Vikings have moved this year and will give the fans a chance to get their first look at TCO Performance Center in Eagan. TCO is also expected to host high-level high school games throughout the year as well.

But to focus on the football side of it, there are many storylines to look forward to going into training camp. I am personally excited to see the new faces joining the team like quarterback Kirk Cousins. Many fans were upset to see the Vikings let Case Keenum go after his magical season but the reality of the situation is that Cousins is just a better player. Having Cousins with standout receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen should make the passing game very fun to watch. Also, the Vikings will have running back Dalvin Cook back who missed the majority of last season after tearing his ACL. Cook looked spectacular last season before getting hurt and will join Latavius Murray in the backfield to form a solid duo. I am also excited to see new defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson and what he’s going to be able to bring to the team. The Vikings have had a weakness at the defensive tackle spot for a couple years now and Richardson seems like he could be the solution. Vikings first-round pick Mike Hughes will also be fun to watch in camp as the Vikings look to continue to improve the league’s highest-rated defense.

The most fun part about training camp is watching the positional battles unfold. The Vikings have a couple that will be very fun to watch like the competition for the third wide receiver spot, newcomer Kendell Wright will be battling Laquon Treadwell for the spot. My prediction is Treadwell will win the job despite a very underwhelming first two seasons with the team. Also who starts on the right side of the offensive line is a big question. There are two spots up for grabs and many players competing for them, my prediction is the jobs will go to Mike Remmers and Rashad Hill to start the year.

We’re in for an exciting season and training camp is just the beginning.
