The Minnesota Vikings new training camp facility in Eagan will be open to the public next month with the start of training camp. Personally, I am not as excited as most fans about the opening because it means no more training camps in Mankato. The Vikings held their training camp in Mankato for 52 years, it was a tradition that locals loved. Growing up, I remember my first Vikings training camp and meeting Daunte Culpepper, it was one of my favorite childhood memories. The annual event always made for a solid tourist attraction for the city of Mankato. As well as, some of those restaurants on Stadium drive seem like they only have people there one-third of the year and when the Vikings come to town.
The new facility in Eagan seems very impressive and will gather a lot of fan interest among people in the Twin Cities metro area, but I find it sad we lost a big summer tradition in Mankato.
