Minnesota State Women’s Hockey loses to No. 9 Robert Morris

Tristen Truax scored her first career goal, but Minnesota State women’s hockey lost to No. 9 Robert Morris 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Verizon Center.

Truax, a freshman forward, one-timed a pass from freshman forward Brittyn Fleming for her first goal as a Maverick at 8:20 of the second period. Fleming’s assist is her team-leading third of the season. The Mavericks’ second goal of the day was scored by sophomore defenseman Jordan Jackson on the power play at 17:17 of the third period. Junior forward Jordan McLaughlin assisted on the play. However, Minnesota State (1-2-1) was unable to match Robert Morris’ (2-0-0) offensive output.

The Colonials jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 20:00 of play, and extended their lead to 4-0 in the second period, before Truax’s goal got the Mavericks on the scoreboard. Robert Morris scored one more time in the second period and once in the third, before Jackson’s goal made the final score 6-2.

Amber Rennie and Brittany Howard each recorded a hat trick and four points for Robert Morris, while teammate Jaycee Gebhard led all skaters in assists (6) and points (6).

Sophomore Chloe Crosby (0-1-1), who started in net, played the first period for the Mavericks. Junior Katie Bidulka played the final two periods in goal. Bidulka made 19 saves. Each Minnesota State goaltender surrendered three goals.

Lauren Bailey (1-0-0) made 18 saves in goal for the Colonials before being lifted for Molly Singewald in the third period. They each allowed one goal.

Each team scored one power-play goal. Minnesota State was 1-of-4 and Robert Morris was 1-of-3.

The Mavericks returns to the ice when they face Wisconsin for the first of a two-game WCHA set at 7:07 p.m., on Friday at Verizon Center.
