Gophers softball fall short in the NCAA seeding; will play in Alabama

The Gophers have achieved the best record in Division I softball at 54-3, but that was not enough to land them a spot in one of the top 16 seeds in the 62-team NCAA tournament.

Riding a 25-game winning streak, the Big Ten champion Gophers will be heading to  the Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Regional, where they will go against Louisiana Tech (37-22) on Friday. Albany and No. 16 seed Alabama will be the other two teams in that regional.

If the Gophers were to win that double-elimination regional, they would likely have to No. 1 overall seed Florida (50-6) in the Super Regionals,  where it is a best-out-of-three format.
