After struggling through a rough month of March, the Minnesota Wild finished off the regular season with a 4-game winning streak for some momentum heading into the postseason. With the 2nd best record in the Western Conference, the Wild seemed destined for yet another date with the Chicago Blackhawks in the Conference Semifinals.
Less than a week since the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Minnesota Wild are standing with their backs against the wall, in a 3-0 hole to the St. Louis Blues. The Wild have struggled to get the puck past Blues goaltender Jake Allen, only putting up one goal in each of the first three games of the series after touting the 2nd highest scoring offense in the league coming into the postseason.
Wednesday will mark the last chance the Wild have of extending the series to a 5th game and getting another game at home at the Xcel Energy Center. The Wild are 0-3 in St Louis this year and 2-6 overall against the Blues, but will need to reel off 4 wins in a row to advance to the next round of the playoffs. Only 4 times in NHL playoff history has a team come back from a 3-0 hole to win, with the most recent being the Los Angeles Kings in 2014.
The Wild will attempt to become the 5th such team to do so, starting at 8:30 pm on Wednesday night on NBCSN.
