This is truly an amazing story. Unfortunately for Brody Rodning, he had lost his mother due to cancer just the night before the game Friday vs. UMD. Losing a friend or relative is difficult enough to deal with but losing a parent is heartbreaking. What Brody did was remarkable. Just one short day after losing his number one fan, his mother, he took the mound at US Bank Stadium vs UMD. However,he didn’t just “take the mound” during the game, he excelled at the ultimate level and pitched a complete game shutout. When he struck out the last batter, he pointed up to the sky…to his mother. This was a special moment.
If you are a baseball fan, you know a complete game is a great accomplishment but adding a shutout makes it even more miraculous. Rodning left it all on the table during the game on Friday, March 24th. This kid is exceptional. He has a 93 mph fastball which is comparable to many professional pitchers. He will be a player to watch if the Mavericks hope to get far into the post season. They have a lot of talented pitchers which helps win games.
For Rodning and his family, there will be much support for the family. If he continues to pitch like he did last Friday, there is a lot of potential for him. It will be fun to watch him continue as a player, but as a man as well. Once again, he is special.
The Mavericks will continue their journey Thursday afternoon vs. Winona at 1:30 pm and again at 3:30pm.
