Latavius Murray Most Likely Means Peterson Is Out

The Vikings signed new running back Latavius Murray early Thursday morning(1:45 a.m. ET) after he met with the team on Wednesday. The back who met with the Vikings early on Wednesday stayed at the team facilities the entire time until he was eventually signed. It went well to say the least.

The running back humbly stated “Obviously, it being my first time, I didn’t really know what to expect, but just so glad I get the chance to play the game again, with a great team, with a great history here in Minnesota.”

His journey began when the Raiders drafted him the the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He was not resigned by the Raiders after his rookie contract expired last season. He is 27 years-old and on the free agency list for the first time. However, he took advantage of this and visited with Jacksonville, Seattle, and Minnesota where he eventually signed a deal.

“It was an experience,” Murray said of his first free agency tour. “Obviously, it being my first time, I didn’t really know what to expect, but just glad I get the chance to play the game again, with a great team, with a great history here in Minnesota.”

Murray is coming off a solid season with the Raiders where he finished fifth in the league with 12 rushing touchdowns. He ended the year with 788 yards on 195 carries. This was good year for the back but not as impressive as his 1,066 yard season in 2015 when he made the Pro Bowl his only time is career.
The addition to the team likely means peterson will not be with the team this upcoming season. Peterson who was the franchises best back will finish with as the teams all time leading rusher with 11,747 yards and a 2012 MVP season.
Peterson is involved in a running back free agency market where there is not a lot of teams looking to sign a back. He had interest in Minnesota and Seattle but will not be going to either team because each team signed backs. Seattle signed Eddie Lacy on Thursday and the Vikings just signed Murray.
Peterson who would like to play for Oakland which is a team who may need a new running back after losing Murray..
