The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently 2.5 games back of the 8th seed in the Western Conference. Which is currently being occupied by the Denver Nuggets. The Wolves are apart of the Northwest Division. The other teams in the division include Thunder, Jazz, Nuggets and Trailblazers. The Jazz and Thunder have a comfortable lead in the standings and are bound for the playoffs. However the Wolves, Jazz and Trailblazers are all fighting for that 8th spot. The Wolves have 16 games remaining to make up that ground. The wolves currently hold the 10th spot and the Portland Trailblazers hold the 9th spot. The Wolves Still have 3 games remaining against Trailblazers but 0 against the Nuggets.
There are many different reason this Wolves team is in the position that they are in. They are 7-3 in their last 10 and a big reason is because of the recent play of Ricky Rubio. He has been playing better at both ends of the court. With his defense and offense. Rubio has always been very good at getting assists, but over the past few games he’s been even better. Breaking a franchise record for assists in a game, in the teams last contest at home against Washington. Rubio has been able to put the ball in the hoop on a more consistent basis, increasing his points per game average. He’s been able to do this by knocking down the jump shot an being able to finish at the rim. In last few games he’s outplayed his opponent at point guard, who consisted of Steph Curry, Chris Paul and John Wall who are considered to best in the league.
Towns continues to play great basketball has he has all season long. The only difference of late has been his ability to be more efficient on the offensive end. Wiggins at times shows the ability to score at will. He just needs to be able to me more consistent in doing so. Hopefully Wiggins will be able to string together some good games in a row down the stretch.
The Wolves will have their hands full tonight as they travel to Boston to take on the Celtics. The Celtics currently hold the 2 spot in the Eastern Conference and are closing in on the number 1 seeded Cavs. Rubio will be tested again tonight as he takes on one of the games rising stars in Isaiah Thomas. The tip is at 6:30 and can be seen on FSN.
