The Wild continue their 5-game road trip as they face the Capitals tonight in Washington. This will be the first of two meetings between these teams this season.
The Wild (43-18-6) still hold the #1 spot in the Western Conference and the Capitals (44-17-7) hold the #1 spot in the Eastern Conference and the entire league.
Minnesota has struggled in the month of March so far, with 2 wins and 4 losses. Their most recent game came against the Blackhawks last Sunday, in which the Wild lost 4-2. Devan Dubnyk was scored on twice within the first 5 minutes of the game, and Darcy Kuemper replaced him in net immediately after.
Washington has also been struggling recently, with 2 wins and 4 losses during the month of March as well. Superstar forward Alexander Ovechkin has not scored a goal since February 19th. This is the first time in his entire career that he has gone 10 straight games without a goal.
These two powerhouse teams are both looking to get out of their current slumps. We will most likely see 2 of the best goalies in the league face off, Devan Dubnyk and Braden Holtby. Look for Minnesota’s Mikael Granlund and Washington’s T.J. Oshie to make huge impacts on the game.
The Capitals will be playing without newly acquired defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk, as he serves the second game of his 2-game suspension. The Wild will be playing without newly acquired center Martin Hanzal due to the flu.
It should be a good game between these extraordinary teams. Game time is at 6:00.
