The Vezina Trophy is awarded to the best goaltender at the end of the season and, so far during this season, Devan Dubnyk is absolutely the #1 choice to win it. Dubynk leads all goalies in goals against average (1.88) and save percentage (.936). He is 2nd in the league in wins with 27 (Sergei Bobrovsky has 28) and tied for 2nd in shutouts with 5 (Braden Holtby has 6).
Dubnyk is a key factor as to why the Minnesota Wild are currently in 1st place in the Western Conference and 2nd place in the league. His dominant performance has allowed the Wild to be competitive in every game. He keeps the games close and always provides an opportunity to win. It is easy to see why he was selected to play in the all-star game last weekend.
It is a lot easier to play offense when you know you have a solid goalie playing behind you, and that is exactly what Dubnyk has brought to the table. Solid goaltending and a winning attitude.
I am definitely glad I have him on my fantasy team this year.
The Wild start a 4-game Canadian road trip tonight against Dubnyk’s former team, the Edmonton Oilers. Darcy Kuemper will be starting in net. The game starts at 8:00.
