Eric Staal is exactly what the Wild needed

Remember last summer when there were many doubts about the Wild signing veteran Eric Staal? People were saying he was going to be the next Dany Heatley, or Thomas Vanek. Those doubts should be long gone now.

A little over halfway through the season, as the All-Star weekend approaches, Staal is leading the Wild in points (40) and goals (16). He has provided a big-body presence on the 1st line and has fit in perfectly with Bruce Boudreau’s new team. He is a big reason why the wild are currently in first place in the Western Conference.

Staal is 32 years old, and has over 800 career points. He won a Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes back in 2006, so he knows what it takes to accomplish it again.

If Staal and the Wild remain healthy for the rest of the season, good things are destined to come to the State of Hockey.
