Junior Abby Nordeen was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by conference officials on Monday.
Nordeen earned the honor by playing 179 out of 180 potential minutes as Minnesota State shut out Winona State 3-0 and Upper Iowa 2-0 last week. She was part of a defensive unit that held Winona State and Upper Iowa to three shots on goal combined. Nordeen helped the Mavericks to their NSIC leading 12th and 13th shutouts of the season. She also scored her first career goal — the game winning score — in the Mavericks’ win over Upper Iowa on Sunday.
It is the second NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honor of Nordeen’s career.
The second-seeded Mavericks host seventh-seeded Northern State in the NSIC Tournament Quarterfinal at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday at The Pitch.
