The Minnesota State volleyball team downed Minot State, 3-1 (25-12, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19), Saturday evening at the Minot State Dome.
The Mavericks offense exploded to a quick 10-2 lead in the opening set after a Sydney Powell service ace to force a early Minot State time out. Minnesota State then swelled their lead to ten, 18-8, following a Morgan Olson kill. MSU went on to win the frame, 25-12.
The Mavericks continued to roll on offense into the second set creating a 10-5 edge after a Autumn Risch kill. Minnesota State then stretched their lead to eight, 22-14,with the help of a Jackie Jones kill. The Mavericks went on to close out the Beavers, 25-18.
The Beavers battled back in the third set to capture a early 10-7 lead and force Minnesota State to burn a time out. Both teams continued to exchange points until the Mavericks pulled within one, 20-19, after a Anissa Janzig kill. However, Minot State went on to steal the frame, 25-22.
In the fourth and final frame, the teams continued to fight to find themselves locked at 10. The Mavericks then pulled away with a 7-3 run to steal a 17-13 advantage. The Beavers responded by storming back to pull within one, 20-19. Minnesota State went on to close the frame on a 5-0 run highlighted by a match winning service ace by Maddie Keute to take the set, 25-19.
Minnesota State held the edge in kills (53-44) and assists (53-41). Minot State posted a match-best 51 digs.
The Mavericks have won the last three match ups between these schools and lead the all-time series, 4-1.
Three Mavericks reached double digits in kills: Jones (14), Olson (13) and Hassing (12). Risch recorded a match-best 46 assists while Keute contributed a match-high 16 digs.
With the win, Minnesota State moves to 11-11 (5-9 NSIC) on the season. The Mavericks will return to Taylor Center on Oct. 28 to take on Northern State at 7:00 p.m.
