Minnesota State Men’s Hockey freshman forward Parker Tuomie has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week for his performance in two Maverick wins last week.
A native of Bremerhaven, Germany, and a product of Sioux Falls of the United States Hockey League, Tuomie contributed two goals and an assist and totaled ten shots on goal as Minnesota State swept then seventh-rated St. Cloud State in a pair of nonconference games played in Mankato last weekend.
The 5-10, 185-lb lefthanded shot drew an assist on a goal by Michael Huntebrinker to open the scoring in Friday’s 4-1 victory. He then scored the fourth and sixth goals for the Mavericks and had a team-high six shots on goal in Saturday’s 6-4 victory as MSU gained its first sweep over the Huskies since the 2007-08 campaign. The goals are the first of his college career.
Rated #9 in this week’s USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls, the Mavericks are off to a 4-0-0 start to the 2016-17 season. Minnesota State resumes WCHA action this week with a pair of league contests at the University of Alaska Friday and Saturday.
