Viking Men’s Soccer suffers double overtime loss to Martin Luther

On Thursday night at BLC Soccer Field, Martin Luther scored a goal two minutes into the second overtime period to earn a 2-1 victory over the Bethany Men’s Soccer team.

Bethany had a strong start to the game, as Kenneth Johnson (Otsego, Minn.) opened the scoring in the seventh minute, earning his third goal of the 2016 season. Johnson’s goal ended MLC goalkeepers shutout streak at four games and nearly 400 total minutes.

Martin Luther would respond in the 38th minute on a penalty kick to take a 1-1 tie into halftime. The two teams went back and forth for the remainder, with each team having multiple chances to put the ball in the back of the net for the win. Martin Luther would score the game-winning goal two minutes into the second overtime period to earn their fourth UMAC win of the season.

Bethany finished with nine shots on goal compared to the Knights 13.

Saturday the Vikings will play St. Scholastica is another UMAC contest. Scheduled start time is set for 1p.m.
