The Minnesota State men’s golf team tied for 15th at the Northeastern Golf Classic which was held in Talequah, Okla., the last two days.
The tournament is the second event of the 2016-17 campaign for the Mavericks.
Minnesota State combined to shoot rounds of 299, 295 and 300, with their 894 total placing them 56 strokes behind by the tournament champions from Arkansas Tech (838)). There were 18 teams at the tournament, which took place at the Muskogee Country Club.
Junior Kelton Schmitz (69-71-72–212) carded a -1 for the 54 holes at the tournament finished in a tie for tenth. Freshman Bryce Thompson (76-71-79–226) tied for 71st, while junior Jacob Cooper (78-75-76–229) was 82nd. Other Minnesota State competitors included sophomore Matt Newman (76-78-77–231, tied for 83rd) and sophomore Saul Lanigan (78-79-75–232, tied for 86th).
