St. Thomas sweeps MSU in fall tennis dual

The Minnesota State women’s tennis team opened its fall schedule with a 9-0 loss to St. Thomas.

With the loss, MSU falls to 0-1 on the season, while UST improves to 1-0.

The Tommies began the dual winning all three of the doubles matches to go up 3-0.

Senior Melissa Mashburn and sophomore Erin Streeter fell in the first doubles match by the score of 9-7 to Taylor McLeod and Paige McLeod, before juniors Lisa Dobbelaere and Nina Risselman fell to Paige Becher and Lauren Keller 8-6 in the No. 3 doubles match.

UST then finished the dual winning all six of the singles matches to complete the 9-0 sweep.

Three Mavericks including Streeter, Dobbelaere and freshman Monika Ryan all went to a deciding set in their singles matches. Streeter fell to Caitlin Bakke by the score of 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-3) in the No. 1 singles match, while Ryan lost to Becher 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5) in the No. 3 singles match. Dobbelaere fell to Taylor McLeod 4-6. 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) in the fourth singles match.
