The Minnesota State men’s golf team posted a seventh-place finish at the BSU Invitational which was held in Bemidji, Min., the last two days.
The tournament marked the first event of the 2016-17 campaign for the Mavericks.
Minnesota State combined to shoot a rounds of 304 and 309, with their 613 toal placing them 21 strokes behind by the tournament champions from Minot State (592). There were 10 teams at the tournament, which took place at the Bemidji Town and Country Club..
Juniors Kelton Schmitz (75-77) and Jacob Cooper (74-78) were the top Maverick individuals at the tournament with their 36-hole totals of 152 placing them in a tie for 17th. Other Minnesota State competitors included freshman Bryce Thompson (78-76–154, 28th), sophomore Matt Newman(77-78–155, tied for 29th) and sophomore J.J. Svac (79-82–161, tied for 49th).
Next action for Minnesota State is the Northeastern (Okla.) Classic Sept. 19-20 in Tahlequa, Okla.
