Bethany women’s soccer wins, men fall at Beloit

The Bethany men’s soccer team began the 2016 season on the road Saturday afternoon against Beloit College. The Buccaneers defeated the Vikings by a final score of 2-1.

Bethany struck first in the contest just under seven minutes into the game, and held that lead into halftime. Scoring the lone goal for the Vikings in the opening game of the season was sophomore Kenneth Johnson (Rogers, Minn.). The goal by Johnson was assisted by sophomore teammate Meles Abraha (St. Paul, Minn.)

Next on the schedule is a contest tomorrow (Sept. 5) against Rockford University to close out the first road trip for the men’s soccer team.


The¬†women’s soccer team played their second match of the season against Beloit College on Sunday and¬†earned their first victory of the season, winning 2-1 against the Buccaneers.

Early in the first period, freshman Rachel Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.) scored a goal to put the Vikings ahead 1-0. The goal by Bitter was assisted by Lydia Wildauer (Port Washington, Wis.). Beloit would answer with a goal of their own to knot the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.

With just under 15 minutes to play in regulation, Bitter again found the back of the net to help lead the Vikings to a 2-1 victory, and first victory of the 2016 season. Emily Barthel assisted on the game winning goal. Bitter has now scored all three of the Vikings goals this season.

The women’s soccer team will complete the road trip on Monday morning with a contest against the Rockford Regents.
