Minnesota State University’s bid to change conferences for its men’s hockey program has been declined.
In July, MSU-Mankato announced that it had applied to become a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).
NCHC Commissioner Josh Fenton said in a written statement on Wednesday that, “after careful consideration and a thorough vetting process, the NCHC Board of Directors announced the Conference will not move forward with membership expansion at this time.” Fenton added that the conference “will continue to be attentive to the college hockey landscape and any future changes that may come.”
KTOE News contacted MSU Athletic Officials who declined to comment on the NCHC’s statement.
The Mavericks will begin their 18th season as members of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association this October.
