Vikings Women’s Soccer tabbed for fifth place in pre-season poll

The Bethany Women’s Soccer team officially begins the 2016 campaign on Thursday afternoon against Northwestern in a non-conference soccer contest at the Bethany Soccer Field.

On Monday afternoon, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Preseason Coaches’ Poll was released with the Vikings tabbed for a fifth place finish. In 2015, the women’s soccer team finished the UMAC season in fifth place, earning the final spot in the postseason tournament.

Heading into the 2016 season, though, St. Scholastica is expected to reign supreme once again as the UMAC coaches selected the Saints a unanimous first-place finisher in the Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Northwestern proved they could be a contender again this season after winning a share of the title in 2015 for the first time since 2000. The Eagles were picked second by the coaches with 54 points, while the University of Minnesota Morris should be in the mix as well following just behind in third with 51 points.

The Vikings are excited about the 2016 season. Head Coach Derick Lyngholm, in his tenth season, returns a majority of the roster while adding some talented student-athletes to make a run at the 2016 UMAC Championship.
