The Minnesota State women’s soccer team has been picked to finish second in the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
MSU, which finished its 2015 season with an 18-2-2 record, claimed the second spot in the poll with 213 points and seven first place votes. Augustana topped the poll with 215 points and eight first place votes. Both the Mavericks and the Vikings advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season.
Winona State finished third in the poll with 188 points, while Minot State (4th/181 points) and Bemidji State (5th/168 points) rounded out the top-five.
Senior Kiana Nickel was named the NSIC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Last season, Nickel recorded 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points. For her efforts during her junior season, Nickel received All-NSIC First Team honors and NSCAA All-American accolades.
The Mavericks continue their exhibition schedule on Saturday, August 27, as they host Gustavus Adolphus at 5:00 p.m. MSU opens its regular season schedule on the road at Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday, September 4, at 2:30 p.m.
