MSU and U of M not able to punch ticket to NCAA Hockey Tourney, SCSU does

St. Cloud State topped Minnesota Duluth 3-1 to take NCHC title and has landed a spot in the NCAA men’s hockey tournament.

The Huskies picked up an automatic bid by beating Minnesota Duluth 3-1 on Saturday night in the National College Hockey Conference tournament championship game at Target Center.

The Bulldogs are in line for an at-large berth, but the same can’t be said for their in-state rivals. Minnesota lost 5-3 to Michigan for the Big Ten title, and Minnesota State lost 2-1 to Ferris State in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association championship. Both the Gophers and the Mavericks are too low in the PairWise rankings that mimic the NCAA selection criteria to hope for a bid.

The 16-team field will be revealed on Sunday.
